Michelle and Adam’s colorful garden wedding was personalized from beginning to end. As wedding planners and designers, we pride ourselves on fusing your different cultures, preferences and wants together, creating a seamless wedding day. Keep reading to see how we blended Michelle’s Chinese heritage with Adam’s Jewish faith!
Despite going to the same university, having mutual friends, living in neighboring dorms and even sharing the same major, Adam and Michelle somehow never crossed paths until a dating app brought them together. They met at Mozart’s Coffee Roasters for their first date, and over coffee found out that they were kindred spirits. When Michelle visited Adam for the first time in San Antonio, he took her to the botanical gardens. They were setting up for a wedding, and there was music playing, so Adam took Michelle by the hand and asked her to dance. Two years later, Adam again took Michelle’s hand in a botanical garden, this time to ask her to marry him. Not long after getting engaged, the two knew a colorful garden wedding would be the perfect fit.
Since she was young, Michelle had dreamed of a backyard garden wedding. The couple wanted a space that was intimate, with a lovely outdoor ceremony space. After touring many other venues, they instantly fell in love with Hummingbird House the moment they laid eyes on it. It was also the perfect homage to getting engaged in a garden!
To start the wedding day, the couple began by hosting a Chinese tea ceremony. Not only was it important to incorporate elements form both of their cultures, but this was the perfect way to honor their parents and grandparents, to thank them for “raising us and loving us unconditionally.” Michelle’s grandparents actually travelled all the way from China to attend their wedding!
Michelle wore a traditional Chinese dress for the the tea party, changing into a western gown for their wedding ceremony.
Honoring Adam’s faith, the couple were married under a Chuppah after signing the Ketubah. Adam stepped on glass following the ceremony to celebrate their union. He also wore custom cuff links featuring their cat, Sasha!
Carhart Photography made the couple feel so comfortable in front of the camera, capturing so many genuine and tender moments that might’ve otherwise been missed.
Red is the central color in Chinese weddings, but Michelle wanted to add variety with some peach and yellow hues. We created a unique, bright color palette for the day while also honoring Michelle’s heritage. The primary palette featured shades of red, peach, rose, terracotta and yellow with pops of soft blue.
Michelle adored her bouquet and the chuppah, sharing “The Farmer and I’s florals blew me away. Worth every penny!”
“Bianca was the best wedding planner we could’ve asked for! She was kind, communicative and flexible. She worked hard to understand our vision and goals early on, and checked in with us often throughout the planning process. Bianca was incredibly patient with answering all our questions, gave experienced advice and was honest with us if she thought something wouldn’t work or would be better achieved another way- which is so important. On the day of, she and her team worked seamlessly behind the scenes to coordinate all the moving parts. Adam and I didn’t have to do anything but enjoy our day and be whisked from point A to point B. We couldn’t imagine doing this without her!” – Michelle, bride
